Charles I. Shelton, D.O., is Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Kentucky in Lexington and serves as Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Pikeville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pikeville, KY. He is the president of Lexington Psychiatric Group PSC.
Dr. Shelton received his BA in psychology from West Virginia University in Morgantown and his DO from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg. He completed an internship at Logan General Hospital in Logan, WV and a residency in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Kentucky, where he served as Chief Resident during his final year. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Shelton’s special interests involve psychopharmacology, treatment resistant conditions and forensic psychiatry. He has lectured internationally on topics in psychiatry and taught many continuing medical education symposia and programs. He has authored a manuscript entitled “Diagnosis and management of Anxiety disorders” which was published in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association in March 2004.
Clinically, he is involved primarily in solo psychiatric practice. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, American Osteopathic Association and the American Academy of Psychiatry and Law.
